We Feed the Future…
Every student needs a nourishing meal throughout the day to help keep them strong and healthy and ready for the important work they are doing in the classroom. Here in Cumberland County Schools, students are offered both breakfast and lunch, as well as After School Snacks—either through Prime Time or Remediation.
Cumberland County Child Nutrition Services now offers online prepay. Parents can register online and make payments to their student’s lunchroom account. Credit Card payments can be made at www.k12paymentcenter.com. There is a $1.95 processing fee for each transaction. Please allow 24 hours for the deposit to be placed on the student’s account.
Offer vs. Served
Students are offered a variety of food choices daily. They are not required to take all of the items offered but must select ½ cup fruit or vegetable for a reimbursable meal. Students are encouraged to take a variety of healthy choices.
What’s on the Menu

About the Program
The Child Nutrition Services (CNS) Program is a non-profit organization that operates 85 cafeterias in the Cumberland County Schools, as well as provides meals during the summer through our Summer Feeding Program. The Program provides meals to the Headstart sites in our community. CNS assists special programs, such as Prime Time, with daily snacks for their After School Care Program for children. In conjunction with providing healthy, nutritious meals at a reasonable cost, we provide nutrition education for students as we seek to introduce them to healthier choices during meal service for a better way of life.
Child Nutrition is a self-supporting federal reimbursement program. This means the Program is reimbursed for every free and reduced meal that we serve to students. We generate revenue by serving the (paying) student and offering a la carte items in our schools. Any profit made is reinvested in the program to provide higher quality food at lower costs, on-going training for the staff, and to improve the equipment and facilities.
CNS offers the National School Lunch Program and National School Breakfast Program to all of our schools under a $26 million budget. The cafeterias serve over 53,000 meals per day – approximately 16,000 breakfasts and 37,000 lunches. To accomplish the mission of feeding the students of Cumberland County Schools a nutritious meal, CNS employs approximately 600 people.
The menus are developed by a committee of Cumberland County School cafeteria managers with guidance from the department’s registered dietitian. While the goal is to provide students appealing meals, CNS must also abide by all federal, state, and local regulations regarding not only the menus but the overall Program. This includes accommodating students with special dietary needs in the breakfast and lunch programs.
The CNS office staff is composed of an Executive Director, Director, Director of Business Operations, five supervisors, six specialized clerical staff members, a computer technician, a training manager, a maintenance foreman, a refrigeration technician, two equipment technicians and an equipment technician apprentice.
For further information on the Program or the information listed on this page, please contact the Child Nutrition Office at 910.678.2502.
Students may qualify to receive meals free or at a reduced rate if their family’s income is within the income eligibility guidelines. Free and Reduced applications are distributed at your student’s school and are available at the CNS Office at 810 Gillespie Street, Fayetteville, NC 28306.
We offer a variety of payment options to our parents. Students may pay for meals at the time of purchase. Prepayment is also an option. You can prepay for meals using cash, check, or prepay online. When paying with a check you will need to include your child’s name and student number on the check.
